When I Fall in Love
Meditations on Love and Politics
I wrote this for German Jacobin. They are probably going to edit and translate into German, but I thought I would leave this here for paying subscribers. People say dialectics have to negative. This piece celebrates love as a state that can lead us from narcissism to solidarity. Watch this space for our November meeting! I think I will have to schedule it for November 29. I’m so busy these days it is kind of crazy.
Enjoy. I would put on Nat King Cole’s “When I Fall in Love.” His phrasing and the tiny silences make his rendition one of the greatest love songs of all time. After you listen to that I would put on Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” and then P.J. Harvey’s “Send His Love to Me.” Finish it off with Nina Simone’s “I Put a Spell on You.” And think about why autotune can’t produce any good love songs.
