Ebola at Burning Man and the Pimp Lobby

I logged into X one day and saw Ebola at Burning Man trending. I took the bait, clicked around and decided it was BS. A week or two later on a long drive up the CA coast, we listened to TrueAnon pod, just because I hadn’t in a long time and heard the entire jaw dropping story of how Brace started the rumor about Ebola at Burning Man out of just mischief and schadenfreude when the news was circulating about the Venture Capitalists caught in a mudpit with minimal WiFi. And then news outlets and social media influencers took the rumor and ran with it, straight into a mudpit of lies and half truths.

Then I post this about the Masterson/Kutcher scandal here, but also post something on X. Some one, who I’ve since blocked because they really wanted to ‘get’ me — replied that I by criticizing the religious sensationalism of far right conservatives, extracting $$$ from their parishioners to hire former cartel types to act like vigilantes in Central and Latin America, I was helping the ‘pimp lobby.’ Is there a pimp lobby (mad at OnlyFans and trying to get that site regulated?) — it was so absurd that I had to make fun of this person, at which point, and this always happens in fights I get into on X, they call me a ‘professor”! And worse yet, a member of the Professional Managerial Class and I know nothing.

And yet, in the ugliness of X’s social experiment, I still find surprises and friendships and laughs, and craziness, like Ebola at Burning Man, so I guess I’m not leaving that place yet.
