I got off X when the the Unherd Article about the Woke Mob descending on Vivek Chibber went up. I knew that using the word “woke” in the title would attract the most deranged responses from the on line Left and I was exactly right. I am usually careful about avoiding the word to criticize the symptoms it describes — liberal authoritarianism for instance or illiberal identity because the basement dwellers don’t read that carefully, but it happened and the usual suspects fanned the flames of left wing hysteria. Many of the commenters on X did not read beyond my title.

On a happier note, I will be speaking at the following venues this spring. If you are in these areas, let’s plan a CLiuAnon meetup.

February 20, 2025 5 pm “The Political Gets Personal: Trauma Culture and Second Wave Feminism”

Respondent: Roger Lancaster, Professor of Anthropology and Cultural Studies, George Mason University

Georgetown Humanities Initiative event space, 205 Old North on Georgetown's main campus, Washington DC

March 6, 2025 7 pm at MoMA P.S. 1 I will be talking about Trauma Culture and Kitsch Details here

New York City

April 24, 2025 Seattle University, details TBA

May 24-26 I will be a keynote at the How the Light Gets In Festival of Ideas in Wales.

Scheduled TBA

I’m still debating on whether or not to go back on X and deal with the enshittification of that platform, but send people here for now.

Below the Paywall, I am posting the original version of my piece about Vivek Chibber’s new podcast, especially the episode on the alleged demise of Woke.
